When Parliament returned after the summer recess, I was pleased to speak during Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s first major statement to the House of Commons.
I congratulated him on hitting the ground running and thanked him directly for acting on my six-year campaign to scrap Aim to Permit. The Prime Minister recognised the work that had gone into the campaign and gave me credit for helping to secure the change.
But I was not going to waste the opportunity. I also encouraged him to work with me on reinvigorating our high streets and made clear that there are a few more of my campaigns I would be very happy for the Government to implement.
I look forward to working constructively with the new Government while continuing to fight for Brent East and the issues I believe need action.
