Dawn Butler MP spoke at a VAWG panel at Queens Park Community School

I was proud to speak on a Violence Against Women and Girls panel held in the constituency at Queens Park Community School alongside inspiring contributors, including some amazing speeches and poems by students from the school’s feminist society.

We also heard from campaigners, survivors (although I’d rather call them thrivers) and community leaders. It was incredibly powerful to hear directly from students, parents, teachers and constituents, and to answer thoughtful questions about how we can better protect women and girls in our communities.

At the event, I outlined the Government’s new strategy to tackle VAWG, setting out the steps being taken at a national level to prevent abuse, support survivors and hold perpetrators to account. Ending violence against women and girls requires action at every level — from schools and local councils to Parliament — and I will continue working with communities, campaigners and colleagues to ensure this strategy delivers real change on the ground.
