I joined colleagues from Parliament in signing a letter to the Home Secretary calling for urgent action to help children in Gaza access life-saving medical treatment in the UK.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza is dire, with its healthcare system barely able to function. Children with serious illnesses and injuries urgently need access to medical care that is simply unavailable to them.
In the letter, by Kim Johnson MP, we call on the Government to fulfil its commitment to bring 300 children to the UK through the Gazan Medical Evacuation Scheme, provide an update on progress towards that target, and restore family reunion routes for Palestinians. We also ask the Government to address the cases of Mahmoud Mansi and Obaida Atwan, two young Gazan patients receiving treatment in the UK whose families are still waiting to be reunited with them.
Children requiring urgent medical care cannot afford further delays. The Government must honour its commitment to bring vulnerable children to safety for life-saving treatment and ensure families are reunited wherever possible.
