It’s time for a new social contract with our police

Over the past decade as a Member of Parliament I’ve fought hard to reform our police service. However, 14 years of Tory Government have decimated local police teams and we desperately need to restore public faith.

A Labour Government aims to do this by putting 13,000 more neighbourhood police and PCSOs on our streets. We will halve the level of serious violent crime, tackle violence against women and girls, and restore confidence in the police.

We also need comprehensive re-vetting and psychological testing for every police officer, accompanied by fair wages to reflect their valuable public service.

From the government’s dodgy Covid contracts handed to their mates, to record high NHS waiting lists, the Tories have showed us who they are. It’s time for a change.
