I welcome important action by the Government against illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.
I have consistently called for meaningful action against illegal settlements and have supported calls for restrictions on trade connected with settlements that are illegal under international law.
For too long, Governments have condemned illegal settlement expansion while failing to take sufficient action to challenge it. Words must be accompanied by consequences when international law is violated.
I welcome this step, but there remains considerably more that must be done. I will continue speaking out for the rights of Palestinians, for adherence to international law and for a lasting peace based on justice, security and dignity for both Palestinians and Israelis.
