Today I spoke in Parliament on my amendment (NC47) to the Criminal Justice Bill, calling on the Government to take real, practical steps to stop the rising epidemic of mobile phone theft.
In London alone, over 80,000 phones were stolen in 2024 — that’s one every 6 minutes. Behind every theft is a person left feeling unsafe, a community targeted, and criminal gangs profiting from the resale and export of stolen devices.
My amendment would require mobile phone companies to block stolen phones within 48 hours of police notification — or face financial penalties. Tech giants have a responsibility to act. The technology exists. What’s missing is the political will and accountability to break the cycle.
This is about public safety, justice, and common sense.
I’m proud to have cross-party support for this measure — now we need public pressure too.
