October is always a busy month, attending events all month long for Black History Month. I always say that Black History shouldn’t be consigned to just one month, trying to fit this vast history into a few weeks just doesn’t work.
However, it was an honour to speak at the many events in Brent, Parliament and elsewhere and it was an pleasure to speak in the Black History Month debate in Parliament, which was secured on Government time.
This year's theme is not just about explaining Black History, it's about reclaiming the narratives. So I spoke about many issues, including how taxpayers only stopped paying money to compensate slaveowners only in 2015!
