I want to wish all Brent residents a happy and prosperous New Year. I extend my warmest wishes to you and your loved ones – I hope the year ahead is filled with joy, health, happiness and success.
Serving as your MP continues to be the honour of my life. Brent is one of the most diverse constituencies in Europe and our unity is our strength.
I hope readers enjoyed my Annual Digital Advent Calendar, highlighting the amazing charities and organisations that do so much for Brent East residents. You can watch them all on my YouTube channel.
Many people are still facing hardship after 14 years of Tory Government cuts, which sent the country into a cost-of-living crisis. I thank all those charities and community organisations supporting the most vulnerable. I also encourage readers to look out for your neighbours when you can.
I’m pleased the Labour Government has increased funding for homelessness services by £233m – Brent will receive a £14.5m boost to help the most vulnerable. We must break the cycle of homelessness.
I also know when there are incidents of crime, it shocks the community. I continue to work closely with the local police service, organisations, businesses and residents to ensure community concerns are heard.
In 2025 I will continue to be your strong voice in Parliament. Last year was incredibly busy - working to assist constituents with their local issues and representing their views in Westminster.
This year will be no different. I’ve already secured a debate, taking place on 7th January, on gender, ethnicity and disability pay gaps in the workplace. We will debate solutions to end the pay disparities that persist.
I have many other issues on my agenda, whether it is working to secure more investment in Brent, reforming the Met Police, continuing to support an immediate ceasefire on both sides in Gaza, plus so much more. Your priorities are at the heart of my work.
The Government has made so much progress in a short time; introducing the Renters Rights Bill, Employment Rights Bill, Great British Energy, bringing rail back into public ownership and punished failing water companies. This is the difference Labour makes in power, and I’ll continue to back this bold agenda.
I will work as hard as ever as your representative and together, we will build a brighter, more inclusive, and equitable future for all.
Happy New Year.
