Dawn Launches General Election Campaign with John McDonnell

Dawn, the Labour parliamentary candidate for Brent Central, officially launched her election campaign in Willesden Green on Saturday.  Dawn was joined by John McDonnell, the Shadow Chancellor and Labour parliamentary candidate for Hayes and Harlington, and Ali Milani the parliamentary candidate for Uxbridge and South Ruislip, at the Lewinson Centre where they addressed local residents about the forthcoming general election.

Dawn encouraged local residents to get involved in the campaign and after her speech she spoke to members about the key issues facing Brent and the country in this once in a generation election, including the NHS, her desire to remain in the EU, affordable housing and the climate crisis.  Dawn and John also encouraged members to get involved in the key marginal seats of Harrow East and Uxbridge and South Ruislip, for which the Labour Party is looking to unseat Prime Minister Boris Johnson in the tightly contested seat.  Following the official launch event Dawn, John McDonnell and Labour supporters set off across the borough to speak to local residents about their concerns and priorities.  Dawn said:

I’m delighted to have officially launched my election campaign along with John and so many positive, enthusiastic local members. John spoke so passionately about the need for a Labour Government and how it will invest in all our communities and I know he will make a fantastic Chancellor.     I am standing to be re-elected once again to continue to be a strong voice for Brent Central in Parliament on the issues that matter to us all – including by passionately campaigning to remain in the European Union, protecting our NHS and delivering affordable housing.     I encourage as many people as possible to get involved in our campaign to help keep Brent Labour and to secure a transformative Labour Government for the many not the few!

It was great to be with Dawn for her campaign launch. I've worked closely with Dawn in the Shadow Cabinet and I know she is the strongest voice for this area that you can possibly pick.

The enthusiasm for this election in Brent and across the country is unbelievable; people have had enough of the Tories in every community due to the suffering of a decade of Tory austerity and that is why we need that transformative Labour government to invest in all our communities.

I look forward to continuing working with Dawn towards this vital aim and I am convinced that a vote for Dawn on 12 December will ensure that Brent has a strong local voice in parliament.

I thank Dawn for inviting me today and for encouraging her members to give their support to our campaign to make history in Uxbridge and South Ruislip. In my constituency and across the country, the public could not have a clearer choice at this election. It is either more of the same, if not worse under Boris Johnson, or a kind and caring Labour government who will look after everyone.
