The 27th January 2024 was Holocaust Memorial Day.
As part of this important day, I attended a special service held by the Speaker of the House of Commons and the Speaker’s chaplain.
I also had the honour of signing the Book of Commitment maintained by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust. The Book of Commitment is an opportunity for members to pledge their commitment to Holocaust Memorial Day – to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, the millions of other people murdered under Nazi persecution of other groups, and in more recent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur.
I also paid tribute to those that survived and committing to fighting against antisemitism and hate today.
The 2024 theme is about how fragile, peace, freedom and life is. Learning from our history is crucial, and taking the time to pause and reflect on all those lives lost.
We must never forget.
