In 2021, I stood up in the House of Commons and called out Boris Johnson for his lies.
He had lied to the House repeatedly, and without accountability – from lying about the state of the economy, nursing bursaries, investment in the NHS to tackling the Covid-19 pandemic – he just lies again and again.
Someone has to hold power accountable for the things they say and do and this should be the role of Parliament. However at the time, I was thrown out of Parliament for simply standing up for the truth.
And now, as the Privileges Committee reveals its report into the Partygate Scandal, we understand that Boris Johnson is found to have indeed lied to Parliament!
The committee report vindicates my position at the time however I believe the system needs changing. It cannot be right that Parliament defends those telling the lie and punishes those calling it out.
