Dawn Butler, Member of Parliament for Brent Central, has called on the Government to take action as the unemployment rate in her constituency increased for the second month in a row.

Shockingly, the claimant rate has now increased by 190 in Brent Central since December 2018. Dawn, in order to help provide vital jobs training in the local community, independently organised the Google Digital Skills Garage visit to Brent last month, which provided skills and CV training to the local community.

Over 60 residents and businesses took up the offer and were given free advice and coaching on their digital skills to help them find a job, or grow in their business, career or confidence.

Dawn Butler MP said:

“These latest figures are deeply concerning and represent a worrying trend in Brent. I am calling on the Government to take immediate action to resolve this.

“Too often during my constituency surgery I meet constituents who are forced to take on multiple jobs just to make ends meet. This government has overseen the erosion of workers’ rights with many forced to take on unsecure zero-hour contracts.”

“The next Labour Government will protect workers’ rights, invest in our economy and ensure that everyone gets a fair deal at work. As Member of Parliament for Brent Central I will continue to work tirelessly to deliver opportunities for all Brent residents and business.”
