It is with a heavy heart and bitter disappointment that we have to mourn another loss of a young life in Brent, the second in 7 days, my sincere condolences goes out to the families, loved ones and friends.
I have worked hard over the years to bring our community and organisations together, I have lobbied the Prime Minister and Government to provide the support to provide services for young people and to help tackle gang crime in Brent. I have written a letter to the leader of Brent Council in order for us to sit down and invest in a way forward for our communities.
We all have a role to play community leaders, parents and young people themselves. The media also has a role to play, we have many young people doing well and achieving against all odds. We were moving in the right direction in Brent I don’t want us to go backwards this is another senseless crime and a loss of a young life
I have also written to the Borough Commander who I have been working with to develop a constituency/London wide strategy and the Prime Minister to call for an emergency meeting to see that we can turn words into action and put an end to this needless loss of life, we have to keep our young people safe so that they can grow into responsible adults that is in all of our interests.
I will not let this be Brent’s legacy, Brent is much better than this, we are a wonderful diverse community and our community is our strength.
