On Tuesday 12th July 2016, Dawn Butler Labour MP for Brent Central, hosted in the House of Commons the formal launch of the RE: IMI (Race Equality in the Music Industry).

RE:IMI is an intiaitive by BritishBlackMusic.com and the Black Music Congress which aims to work with stakeholders within the music industry by highlighting race and ethnicity issues. It brings together a collective of music industry practitioners, musicians, producers, academics as well as community activists and equality campaigners.

Dawn Butler MP said:

“There were representations from BECTU, BPI and the UK Music Diversity Task Force. It is important that diversity is embedded in all industries. The music industry seems to appropriate music without appreciating its original source.”
