This week Dawn Butler MP has welcomed the u-turn taken by the Secretary of State for Education on plans to force every Brent school to become an academy.

Last week, Dawn Butler MP wrote to the Secretary of State for Education expressing her deep concern at plans to convert every school into an academy by 2022. She highlighted the chorus of discontent amongst the Brent academic community and called on the Secretary of State to drop her plans.

Dawn Butler MP said:

“I am glad the minister has listened to my concerns and taken this step to avoid the forced academisation of all schools. We must all strive to make sure that every school is a good school, and that children are taught by great teachers. Academisation of schools does not, in itself, achieve that. It is important that we make that clear.”
