Dawn Butler MP marked Big Energy Saving Week 2016 this month by arranging a special energy advice surgery for Brent Central residents at Willesden Green Library.
In Brent Central alone there are 6,000 households living in fuel poverty.
Big Energy Saving Week is a national campaign run by Citizens Advice and the Energy Savings Trust to help people cut their fuel bills and get financial support to help with these bills.
This year Big Energy Saving Week ran from 31st October 2016 to the 6th November 2016.
Dawn Butler MP said:
“It is so deeply shocking 6,000 local households are living in fuel poverty and have to make the tragic decision of whether to heat or eat. Urgent action is needed to tackle fuel poverty and I will continue to urge the Government to do all they can to get to grips with this crisis and to cap the cost of energy on prepayment meters.”
Earlier this year Dawn Butler MP successfully lobbied the Competition & Markets Authority to propose a cap on the cost of prepayment meters. The government has said it will adopt these proposals saving energy consumers on average £300 a year.
