On Sunday 23rd October I joined the Kilburn Cosmos Rugby Club to celebrate and raise awareness of local women in sport.
As part of the day I joined a coaching session with England rugby player, Hannah Gallagher, alongside local volunteers. Women in Sport Week aims to increase the profile of women in sport and aims to get more women and girls physically active and playing sport.
Kilburn Cosmos RFC Ladies are based at Gladstone Park in Brent Central.
It was such a pleasure to mark Women in Sport Week with the Kilburn Cosmos RFC Ladies. It was also a real joy to see so many women of all ages and backgrounds come together to compete. I want to take the opportunity to encourage women from across Brent to get active and get involved.
Jessica Horner who organised the event said:
“The pitch up and play taster session run by England Rugby at Kilburn Cosmos was a huge success with over 20 ladies and 15 girls turning up to try the sport. The event was focused on introducing complete beginners to the world of rugby, emphasising that rugby is a great sport for women and there is a position for all shapes and sizes. Starting from basics, skills were built up over the hour session in the form of games. The park was filled with laughter and with many vouching to return to future training sessions the season ahead is looking bright for both squads.”
