Dawn Butler MP has launched a campaign calling for legendary Jamaican athlete Usain Bolt to be given a knighthood by Her Majesty The Queen.
Ms Butler has started an online petition on change.org and is calling on other Members of Parliament and the public at large to join the campaign. Usain Bolt has made history in athletics, holding world records for the 100m, 200m and 4x100m. Bolt is also an 8-time Olympic Champion and 11-time World Champion.
Ms Butler said:
“I am delighted to start this petition calling for Usain Bolt to be given the knighthood that he so truly deserves. Usain Bolt is a legend who has represented Jamaica so proudly on the world stage throughout his outstanding career, winning so many medals and breaking world records, and it’s about time he was officially recognised here in the UK for his remarkable achievements and service to athletics.
Having recently run his final race, now is the time to make it happen and as a daughter of Jamaica myself it would make me incredibly proud to be a part of making that happen. I now hope others will join me in signing my petition to cheer him up as he recovers from injury, and to give a knighthood to the fastest man who has ever lived”.
Ms Butler’s online petition to give Usain Bolt a knighthood can be found at: https://www.change.org/p/theresa-may-mp-give-usain-bolt-a-knighthood
The petition is set to be delivered to the Prime Minister, Theresa May.
